Front Porch Fall Styling
Have you ever walked up to someone’s home and was welcomed with a beautifully styled front porch? Think about it for a moment, what did that feeling do for you?
I have always loved offering my guests an experience when walking into my home. Our homes are a reflection of who we are, what we love and enjoy. As much as we put effort into the interior, we do tend to neglect the exterior. Believe me, I have been guilty of that over and over. Until one day I decided curb appeal should be a priority on my list. After all, that’s the first thing people see before entering your home! Its the first impression! I wanted to offer my guests a welcoming hug before they even knock on my door. And since then I have always taken the time to make sure I styled my front porch according to season.
You don’t have to go overboard with your styling. Taking the time to pick out the perfect planters that compliment the colors of your exterior is the first step. If you are like me and basically “suck” at planting. Not sure how I can be so bad when my mom is like a magician when it comes to flowers and plants. She talks to them for goodness sakes and guess what? Life just oozes out of them when she does. That’s the kind of talent I want passed down to me.
Sometimes you just have to face reality and just know what your strengths are and what your weaknesses are. So I enlisted the help of a talented young woman who comes out and freshens up my planters 4 times a year for every season. Is it bad that she’s on speed dial??
For a simple look that still makes a statement, you can stop right there and you now have a beautiful porch to enjoy. Understated elegance. Add a wreath to your door and now you took it one step further. Wreaths are like the accessories our doors crave. Like the earrings we have to wear, like the… you get the point. Invest in an over the door hanger that stays on your door year round and voila! Makes for an easy swap out of wreaths every season! (my side door fall decor below)
Keep in mind that making a statement does not mean “ a lot of stuff” it means how can you make a statement with the little details. Your personal twist. Yes Karry plants my flowers but I request which flowers I would like and what type of look I am going for. Curly willow sticks and tree branches are always a must in my arrangements… that’s where I make my statement. The planter I have chosen and the detailing on the wreath. That is where you get to add your personal touches.
If you are wanting or willing to take it one step further, then… now is the fun part. Take a moment to think about what you would like your styling to say about you. I am always striving to make sure any of my styling feels cozy inviting and most importantly, include an infusion of my style which is glam elegance.
For fall, pumpkins are a must. I ran over to my local home goods and hobby lobby to pick up a fun combination of traditional looking pumpkins and pumpkins designed with a twist. I like to walk up and down the aisles to see what will inspire me and what will catch my eye.
What I love about my wreath is that its unexpected. It’s not your traditional orange and green wreath. It also features crystals throughout….You know that’s totally me!
This year, Karry planted mums, ornamental cabbage and creepy Jenny (not sure who named that plant but I have a feeling there was some type of history there…) branches are a must for my arrangements, especially for fall and winter!
By my planters, I styled lanterns, pumpkins and some fun decorative balls. I like to use flameless candles outdoors, especially the ones that allow you to set a timer. This allows for the candles to light up automatically every evening and turn off 5-8 hours later, setting the mood in the early evenings.
I found this fun fall themed sign last year from Hobby Lobby. I can see myself using this piece every year. Maybe even having it become a tradition… a constant piece for years to come. I layered more mums in orange and shades of purple. Those are the two colors I decided to go with. Purple to tie in the Plum accent color I went with indoors. More pumpkins styled laying in different directions to give an effortless look
This wheel barrow was another find from Hobby Lobby last year. Styling pumpkins and wood sticks in it gave off a real fall vibe… reminds me of an apple orchard.
I love that we have seating space on our front porch. The sun sets on this side of our home so we get a beautiful view every evening. My wicker seating set stays here year round. I change out the cushions to fit the season we are in. These pumpkin throw pillows were the perfect find!
Outdoor throw blankets scream cozy! And string lights offer a warm feel to this space on dark cooler days
More mums were added on this side of the porch, styled on each side of the arm chairs. As well as a wicker basket filled with outdoor pillows was a must for me!
Finally I would like to say that since this is a covered porch, I do not have to cover the furniture and decor.
