5 Design Secrets for a Room You’ll Love

Are you ready to update a room but don’t know where to start? Farah Merhi from Inspire Me Home Décor shares her ultimate style guide to designing a space you’ll love for a long time—plus, her tips are budget-friendly! Often when her Instagram followers ask her how to update a room, they don’t know where to start. There’s no big secret, just a few easy ideas and you’ll be on your way to glamorous new look without breaking the bank. Her first rule is that the big stuff needs to be versatile–and the easiest way to do that is to choose a neutral color and go for durability. A sofa like that has a classic silhouette like this one, with a solid wood frame, and durable linen blend fabric in a neutral color has plenty of style. You’ll never get sick of the style and it’ll last a long time. Sometimes when people hear “neutral” they think boring. Wrong! Just like your wardrobe, where you invest in well-made jeans and shoes that will withstand trends and wear-and-tear, it’s worth investing in a sturdy sofa and solid coffee table. Then, like our closet accessories, we can have a little more fun with pattern, color, and trends in accessories, only instead of shirts and jewelry, let’s have fun with decorative accents in this room, just like with this wall art duo. We love the botanical print and the bright bold flamingos! Wall art can completely transform a room. Rule number two is to anchor the room with a rug. A new rug will make the space look clean and new. This overdyed rug has a traditional pattern but the super saturated tone is the glam update that I’m looking for. It also is the perfect size to center the furniture on and ground the room. Rule number three is to update pillows seasonally. One of the most cost-effective ways to update any room with a fresh new look is to change out pillows. You can also simply get new pillow covers to change the look throughout the year. Speaking of seasonal updates, depending on the climate where you live, it might be worth investing in a second set if curtains, like these double-lined options. Where Farah lives, winter means drafty windows. Double-lined curtains insulate the home and can block light. If your climate doesn’t change, your selection can be purely decorative. Remember to always install curtain rods a few inches below the ceiling to add height—it’s one of Farah’s favorite design tricks! Rule number four is to add plenty of balanced lighting to make the space inviting. Without proper lighting, you won’t use a room all the time. Lamps on side tables make the space inviting and add style. Black lamp shades? You can’t go wrong with this bold look. The last rule is to finish the room with a throw blanket. A throw instantly boosts the comfort of a space, adds a pop of color, and it’s really inexpensive. Luxury fabrics like cashmere, merino wool, and faux fur make a huge difference and last a long time. Keep the throw blanket draped over the side of the sofa for a relaxed yet elegant look. Plus, we love having one close by to cozy up to. There you have it! At home, you can start with what you have. Whether its furniture from the same room or from around your home, a new layout will give the room a fresh look. Thanks for watching! We hope you learned something while you were here! Happy shopping!

How to Decorate a Living Room 4 Different Glam Ways

Style guru Farah Merhi from Inspire Me Home Décor is going to show us how to transform a living room four times to show you a few options that will glam up your space on a budget! One of her design rules is to invest in neutrals, like this sofa, so you can change out your look. This chesterfield is perfect and you’ll see just how versatile it can be. Let’s get started! Look one: is Organic Glam because of its natural influences. Elements like gold leaf, marble, and earth tones will harmonize together instead of competing, which makes for a very calming look. Farah pulled the color scheme from this wall art and then mixed in these pillows to introduce more color. A sculptural modern side chair and a beaded pillow add structure to balance the simplicity of the succulents, organic shapes, and plant motifs. And this tray adds just a little bit of shine – check out how Farah did it in another video! If you love ultra-feminine colors, then say Bon jour to Parisian Glam. This has all of the pastels that are totally on-trend right now: soft pinks, blues, minty greens. How dramatic is this slipper chair? For Farah, this is the perfect place to kick back and unwind. And check this out – everyone loves a chandelier, but this is an easy way to bring some old school opulence to your space: a crystal table lamp! Farah mixes in some of this mercury glass to bring out the sparkle. Next up is a HUGE trend. Everything from music to fashion is going tropical, and the look is easy and really fun to glam up. Here’s the secret: go bold with color, but bring it back down to earth with natural textures. Gold, green, and pink hues are perfect to bring a little tropical luxury home, even if the closest you’re getting to the beach is a pina colada in your PJs. This look is all about having fun and mixing it up – mix patterns and colors, you really can’t mess up. Farah finishes off this look with some leopard pillows, because why not? The colors are neutral, so they’ll help ground the look. The last look might surprise you, but I totally love it! This is a look that Farah calls Man Glam. It’s not frilly or fluffy, but this moody and dramatic style is so inviting and relaxing! It’s all about dark, plush fabrics that make a space feel more intimate and sophisticated. And check out this rug - the geometric twist on a traditional thickly woven area rug is both sturdy and effortlessly cool.A stone vase and marble coasters anchor the adventuresome brass telescope and compass, and they go perfectly with this map art print.

DIY Gold Leaf Tray

Style expert Farah Merhi shows us how to transform this simple white ceramic tray into a gilded showstopper. Farah was inspired to create this DIY because gold leafing has been popping up everywhere – and some of the trays are so expensive! This is practical and pretty, and will save you roughly $100 off what you’ll find in stores. This DIY is a fast, inexpensive and easy alternative that anyone can do. You can use real or faux gold leaf, which comes in paint or sheets. Farah chose the sheets because they’re really easy to work with and give a more authentic look. First, let’s get the tray ready by wiping any dust off with a dry cloth. Then, think about the design you’d like. You can create a freeform design or make your own stencil with painter’s tape like these stripes. Farah is doing an organic design because she is using this on a nature-inspired coffee table. Next, with the foam brush apply a thin and even coat of gold leaf adhesive. Now, wait about 30 minutes or until the adhesive turns from clear to white and tacky. Next, carefully peel pieces of gold leaf and gently rub them onto the tray. You can use a sponge brush to smoothen the gold leaf and to buff off any excess flakes. Finally, seal the gold leaf and let it dry for 30 minutes. The sealer will protect the gold leaf from light, dust, and moisture that way the tray will last for a long time. And voila! Farah loves this sparkling new tray to complete her coffee table. You can style with succulents, candle, coasters, etc. or have them empty to serve as a catchall as needed! Happy shopping!

5 Ways to Style a Coffee Table

Design expert Farah Merhi from Inspire Me Home Décor show five easy ways to style your coffee table. This is one of the most common questions Farah gets asked on social media. Try one of these tricks, and you’ll rock the look flawlessly. Ok, option one is called tray chic. A tray is perfect because it corrals everything on table. The secret here is to choose a material that’s different than what your table is made out of. This mirrored tray will add dimension to this glass coffee table, but something like this gold leaf tray is perfect to contrast the glass top. This is a really easy DIY that Farah will show you how to make in another video.
The second way to arrange your coffee table with a stylish stack. From art books to vintage perfume bottles, an organized array shows personality. A stack of inspirational books is clever, colorful, and eye-catching. Now, onto number three. This is what Farah calls haute height. Coffee table décor doesn’t have to be flat. Vary the height and scale of unique mementos with a mini statue, like this giraffe and this turtle trinket tray. Place the tallest item away from the edge and in the center of the table, then offset with another item around half its height. The fourth way to arrange your coffee table is called floral fresh. Farah loves to highlight natural elements, from succulents in a rattan tray to fresh flowers in a glass cloche. A small bouquet can be timeless and stunning. You don’t have to have a green thumb either—faux flowers can add a sense of freshness, too, and no one will be able to tell the difference. Lastly, the “less is more” approach is one of Farah’s favorites—its clean and tidy. Showcase just one item; such as a tray, or plant. If you think it looks cluttered, reshuffle the items until you like how the coffee table looks. Farah likes to update the look every few months to keep the room looking fresh. There you have it! Have fun glamming it up! Find all these products and more at!
